Vintage Pattern Double-Handled Cut Glass Bowl by Tuthill

Vintage Pattern Double-Handled Cut Glass Bowl by Tuthill

The exceptional artistry of this outstanding dish by American Brilliant maker Tuthill is second to none. Crafted in that company's beloved Vintage pattern, this elegant bowl is adorned with the striking grape vine design and is accented with a band of sparkling cut hobstars. Two flawlessly cut handles complete this intriguing design.

The art of Charles Tuthill provides one of the best examples of the American Brilliant Period cut glass tradition. American cut glass won world acclaim in the 19th and 20th centuries, recognized for its superiority and advanced glass-making methods. Decorated entirely by hand, American Brilliant cut glass was extremely expensive and out of reach to all but the affluent class. It thus became a symbol of elegance and leisure, and demand for beautiful glass products spurred intense competition and creativity within the industry. Tuthill's Cut Glass Company provided some of the finest and most inspired pieces of any other maker. Though first known for its geometric designs, the company began to incorporate intaglio design featuring flowers and fruit into its patterns after 1900. These intaglio patterns have become very popular and have increased greatly in value.
