Silver Jubilee Commemorative Glass Goblet

Silver Jubilee Commemorative Glass Goblet

This engraved commemorative glass goblet by Thomas Goode & Co. of London was crafted to celebrate the Silver Jubilee of George V and Queen Mary in 1935. Taking place on May 6, 1935, the Silver Jubilee was a momentous occasion that marked 25 years of King George V's reign as the King of the United Kingdom and the British Dominions. It was the very first Silver Jubilee ever recognized by a British monarch until that point in history, and it was marked by a number of celebratory events and Jubilee souvenirs such as this one. From coins to stamps and mugs to flags, commemorative items honored the life of their beloved monarch. This vase is an especially fine example, engraved with a crown and laurels and inscribed "GR MR 1910-1935 / To Commemorate the Silver Jubilee of King George V and Queen Mary." Sadly, King George V died just a year later, making these objects especially prized.
