Sergeant Major Pace Keeping Cane

This rare military cane would have once been used by a regimental sergeant major as a pace stick. Consisting of two pieces of wood, the brass hinged shaft opens to the fixed position of the length of one pace. Both a symbol of rank and an aid in military drills, the pace stick ensured rhythm and uniformity for troops on parade.
