Miniature Portrait by William Dunlap

This exceptional early American miniature portrait was composed by the famed artist and actor William Dunlap. The subject is Georgina George Oldmixon, an actress who worked with Dunlap and frequently graced the stages of Philadelphia. An actor himself, Dunlap often painted miniatures of those actresses he worked with, along with important members of society. Other examples of his miniatures can be found in the National Portrait Gallery (Washington D.C.) and the Walters Art Museum (Baltimore).
