Jasperware Covered Vase by Wedgwood
This early covered vase by Wedgwood is crafted in the firmâs iconic pale blue and white jasperware. The solid pale-blue body is applied in white relief with neoclassical swags of flowers and stiff leaves. Three legs support the impressive design, with goat masks and hoof terminals upon a shaped triangular base.
The firmâs characteristic unglazed matte âbiscuitâ stoneware finish was first developed in a spectrum of colors by Wedgwood founder Josiah Wedgwood in the 1770s. However, the pale cornflower blue hue exhibited in this piece was the firmâs most popular ever produced, earning itself the name âWedgwood blue.â
